The Future of Play
How do people interact with others in real life in the era of technology?
Midland’s project, The Future of Play, envisions a world over a century from now, where advanced artificial intelligence dominates daily life, making technology an indispensable part of human existence. In this future, people can work, study, and even sustain themselves with home-based food production, leading to reduced social interaction, communication loss, and potential health issues.
To counteract these effects, The Future of Play proposes a space free from technology—an environment where people can reconnect with others in real life. Located 400 meters off the coast of Port Melbourne, in the heart of the bay, this site is beyond mobile reception, encouraging visitors to disconnect from the digital world and fully engage in authentic human experiences.
